What is Baptism
(Matthew 28:18-20 NASB) And Jesus came up and spoke to them saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Baptism is immersion in water.
(Acts 8:38-39 NASB) And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing.
What does baptism signify?
Baptism signifies that a change has occurred.
(Acts 8:36-38 NASB) As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” And Philip asia, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.
What does baptism symbolize?
Baptism symbolizes being washed in His blood.
(Romans 6:3-5) Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we, too, may live a new life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His we will certainly also be united with Him in a resurrection like His.
(1 Peter 3:21) And this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also – not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It save you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
