Summer at Celebration // Deny Yourself

Follow Me

(Luke 9:23-26) 23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

What is a disciple?

Worships him exclusively.

(John 14:6) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

(Luke 4:8) Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'"

Serves him sacrificially.

(Philippians 3:8 NLT) Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ

Witnesses for him unashamedly.

(Luke 9:26) Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

Deny Yourself

Crucifying self.

(Galatians 2:20 AMP) I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Daily.

(I Timothy 4:7) Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

(Titus 2:11-12) For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,

Actively.

(Romans 8:13) For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

(Proverbs 4:23 NLT) Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Seriously.

(John 8:31) To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

(Romans 6:23 CSB) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
