God's Love Language // Experiencing God

*No video this week, you can still stream audio above! Sorry for the technical difficulties.

(John 4:23-24) Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Truth:

Fuels our experience

(Matthew 4:4 NLT) But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

(Colossians 3:16 AMP) Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Substantiates our experience

(John 14:6) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

(Philippians 2:10-11) that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Deepens our experience

(John 17:17) Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

(John 17:3 TPT) Eternal life means to know and experience you as the only true God, and to know and experience Jesus Christ, as the Son whom you have sent.

Spirit:

Guides us to truth

(John 16:13) But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come

Illuminates truth to us

(II Timothy 3:16) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

(2 Corinthians 4:4 NLT) Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don't understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

Empowers us in truth

(Romans 8:9 TPT) But when the Spirit of Christ empowers your life, you are not dominated by the flesh but by the Spirit. And if you are not joined to the Spirit of the Anointed One, you are not of him

Action Steps

  • Be transparent.

  • Be expectant.

  • Be dependent.

God's Love Language // Acts of Service

(Mark 10:45) For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Jesus serves us by:

Saving us

(Ephesians 2:10 TPT) For it was only through this wonderful grace that we believed in him. Nothing we did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the gracious gift from God that brought us to Christ! So no one will ever be able to boast, for salvation is never a reward for good works or human striving. We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!

Supplying us

(John 15:4-5) Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Sustaining us

(II Timothy 2:1,9-10 AMP) So you, my son, be strong [constantly strengthened] and empowered in the grace that is [to be found only] in Christ Jesus. for that [gospel] I am suffering even to [the point of] wearing chains like a criminal; but the word of God is not chained or imprisoned! or this reason I [am ready to] patiently endure all things for the sake of those who are the elect (God’s chosen ones), so that they too may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it the reward of eternal glory.

We don’t work for our faith, but from our faith.

Serving God proves…

We are others focused

(I John 3:16) “We have come to know love by this: that Jesus laid down his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow Christians.”
(Matthew 22:37-38) Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

We want to make an eternal impact

(I Corinthians 15:10 CSB) But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

We have a “get to” attitude

(Philippians 2:5-8 NLT) You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Action Steps

  • Make yourself available.

  • Make him a priority.

  • Make it all about him.

God's Love Language // Words of Adoration

(Isaiah 43:7) everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."

Words of Adoration

(Mark 12:30) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'

My duty.

(John 14:15 AMP) “If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.
(Matthew 15:8-9) “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ (Ref. verse: Isaiah 29:12)

My delight.

(Psalm 27:4) One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
(Psalm 84:10) Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Adoration for God is the…

Remedy for loneliness.

(Joshua 1:5) No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
(Matthew 28:20b) And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Remedy for dissatisfaction.

(Psalm 16:11 NASB) You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
(Psalm 63:3 CSB) My lips will glorify you because your faithful love is better than life.

Remedy for lack of meaning.

(Romans 8:28) And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
(Ephesians 2:10) For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Action Steps

  • Come clean.
  • Consume God’s content.
  • Connect

God's Love Language // Quality Time

(John 3:16 TPT) For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life.

God Wants to Spend Time with You

View of God

Impersonal force

(Hebrews 4:15) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet he did not sin. (Ref. verse: I Peter 5:7)

Unforgiving tyrant

(Psalm 103:1-10) Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

Loving Father

(Jeremiah 31:3) The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness."
(I John 3:1) See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Focused Quality Time

Consume God’s content

(Psalm 119:11 NKJV) Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. (Ref. verse: Proverbs 4:23, Matthew 4:4)
(Hebrews 4:12) For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Constant communication

(Acts 2:42-47) They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles. Now all the believers were together and held all things in common. They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
(I Thessalonians 5:16-18 CSB) Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Action Steps

  • Put God first.
  • Ask for help.
  • Just do it.

God's Love Language // Gift Giving

(John 3:16 TPT) For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life. (Ref. verse: Romans 5:8)

God’s Gift to Us

Jesus (His Son)

Salvation

(Romans 3:10-12, 23) As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. ”for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

(Acts 4:12) Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Sonship

(Romans 8:15 NLT) So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

(Galatians 4:5-7) to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

Your Gift to God

Your life.

(Romans 12:1 TPT) Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.

(Psalm 116:12) What shall I return to the Lord for all his goodness to me?

Obedience

(John 14:15, 21, 23, 24a) “If you love me, keep my commands. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. (Ref. verse: I Samuel 15:22)

(Mark 12:30) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

Action Steps

  • Surrender your yes.
  • Discover your design.
  • Live on purpose. (serving is worship, it’s obedience)
