You Asked For It! // Knowing and Walking in the Will of God For Our Lives

1. "Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God." 1 Peter 4:2 (NKJ)

2. "I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart." Psalm 40:8 (NKJ)

3. "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven. Many will say to me in the day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'" Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJ)

4. "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Romans 12:1-2 (NKJ)

5. "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." Philippians 2:5 (NKJ)

6. "Now, we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. but he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 7. Be diligent (study) to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJ)

8. "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Proverbs 11:14 (NKJ)

9. "There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each on for the profit of all. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (NKJ)

10. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10 (NKJ)

11. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27 (NKJ)

There are necessary steps that we must take in order to know the will of God for our lives.

1. Desire to know and to live in the will of God.

1 Peter 4:2

Psalm 40:8

We cannot know the will of one we do not desire to follow.

2. Develop an intimate personal relationship with Jesus.

Matthew 7:21-23

The more we know Him, the more we will know His will.

3. Surrender your will to God's will.

Romans 12:1-2

We have to be careful not to confuse our will with God's will.

Don't decide what you want to do and then ask God to bless it.

4. Take on the mind of Christ.

Romans 12:2

Philippians 2:5

1 Corinthians 2:12-16

The mindsets of the world and the flesh are not in line with the mindsets of Christ.

We must develop the same mind as Jesus in our life's situations.

5. Obey what you already know to be God's will

2 Timothy 2:15

The teachings of the Word of God are the foundations of the will of God for our lives.

To know His will, know His Word.

6. Seek godly input.

Proverbs 11:14

Godly counsel can direct you and confirm what God has spoken.

7. Consider the gifts and talents that God has given you.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Ephesians 2:10

Do not try to put a square peg in a round hole. God is not calling you to follow in areas for which He has not also equipped you.

8. Listen to the Holy Spirit as He speaks.

Some Practical Things to consider

1. Live in the present. Don't wait for clarity in order to act.

2. God's will is progressive.

3. Better jobs and more money do not necessarily equal the will of God.

4. Living close to extended family does not necessarily equal the will of God, and in some cases is the opposite of His will.

5. If what we believe is God's will doesn't materialize, His Plan B will still lead us to the same destination if our heart is in the right place.

You Asked For It! // Giving

(John 3:16 CSB) For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Three Roadblocks to Giving

Heart issue. 

(Matthew 6:21 TPT) For your heart will always pursue what you value as your treasure.

(I Timothy 6:10 CSB) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Perspective issue. 

(Psalm 24:1) Of David. A psalm. The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;

(1 Chronicles 29:14) “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.

Trust issue.  

(II Corinthians 8:1-4 CSB) We want you to know, brothers and sisters, about the grace of God that was given to the churches of Macedonia: During a severe trial brought about by affliction, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. I can testify that, according to their ability and even beyond their ability, of their own accord, they begged us earnestly for the privilege of sharing in the ministry to the saints

Key truth:  Generosity is a result of giving God all of us.

God the Ultimate Giver

Gave sacrificially.

(Isaiah 53:10a AMP) Yet the Lord was willing To crush Him, causing Him to suffer; If He would give Himself as a guilt offering [an atonement for sin],

Gave generously. 

(Romans 8:32 TPT) For God has proved his love by giving us his greatest treasure, the gift of his Son. And since God freely offered him up as the sacrifice for us all, he certainly won’t withhold from us anything else he has to give.

Gave lovingly.

(Romans 5:8 TPT) But Christ proved God’s passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly!

Gave willingly. 

(Galatians 1:4) who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

What can lead to feelings of anxiety?

Wrong Focus

(Matthew 6:22-23 NASB)  “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”

Fear

(Matthew 6:25-31 NASB) For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’

How can we deal with anxiety?

Practice the Pause

(Psalm 46:10) He says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

(Psalm 46:10 NASB) Cease striving and know that I am God.

Take Control of your thoughts

(2 Corinthians 10:5) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

(Philippians 4:6-8)  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

(Colossians 3:2 NASB) Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

Surrender Control to Jesus

(1 Peter 5:6-7 NASB) Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Lesson #1

Forgive everyone who’s trying to ruin your life.

(Matthew 24:10 NKJV) And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

(Luke 17:1 NKJV) Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come...”

(Proverbs 18:19) An offended brother is more unyielding than a fortified city, and disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel.

  • Betrayal.

  • False accusation.

  • Rejection.

  • Abuse.

  • Humiliation.

(Hebrews 2:17-18 MSG) That’s why he had to enter into every detail of human life. Then, when he came before God as high priest to get rid of the people’s sins, he would have already experienced it all himself—all the pain, all the testing—and would be able to help where help was needed.

Father Forgive Them

(1 Peter 4:1 NCV) Since Christ suffered while he was in his body, strengthen yourselves with the same way of thinking Christ had.

1. Pray for them.

(Matthew 5:43-44) "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

2. Bless them.

(Luke 6:27-28) But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

(Romans 12:14) Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

3. Do good to them.

(Romans 12:17-21) Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

The forgiven forgive.
