(Colossians 1:1 – 14)
1. Always be thankful.
(Colossians 1:3 – 5) We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven.
(1 Thessalonians 5:18) Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you
in Christ Jesus.
2. Always place hope in the Gospel.
(Colossians 1:5 – 8) The faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.
(1 Peter 1:3 – 4) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade – kept in heaven for you.
3. Always be in a state of prayer.
(Colossians 1:9 – 12a) For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father.
(1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV) Pray without ceasing.
Through the power of Christ . . .
1. We share in Christ.
(Colossians 1:12) giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
(Hebrews 3:14) We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end
2. We have been saved.
(Colossians 1:13 CSB) He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.
(Romans 1:16) For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
3. We have been forgiven and redeemed.
(Colossians 1:14) In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
(Ephesians 1:7) In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
(Acts 4:12) Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
