Convictions | Part 5
Who Is The Holy Spirit?
1. The Holy Spirit is God.
(Isaiah 48:16 NASB) And now the Lord GOD has sent me, and His Spirit.
(Acts 5:3 – 4) Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit . . . You have not lied just to human beings but to God.
What does the Holy Spirit Do?
2. The Holy Spirit provides the believer with power for living.
(Acts 1:8) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
3. The Holy Spirit provides the believer with understanding of spiritual truth.
(John 14:16 – 17, 26) And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. . . But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
(John 16:13) But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
4. The Holy Spirit provides the believer with guidance in doing right.
(John 16:13) But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.
(Romans 8:14, 26) For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
(Galatians 5:25) Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
5. The Holy Spirit provides the believer with spiritual gifts to build up the church and spread the gospel.
(1 Corinthians 12:4, 7) There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them . . . Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
6. The Holy Spirit testifies of Christ.
(1 Corinthians 12:3) No one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
(John 16:14) He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.
7. The Holy Spirit leads to repentance and new life.
(John 16:8 – 11 CSB) When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: About sin, because they do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me; and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
(John 3:3, 5 – 6) Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
(Acts 2:38) Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
