Colossians - Christ Alone | Part 6
5 Demonstrations of a Christ-Centered Life
(Colossians 4:2 – 18)
1. We demonstrate a Christ-centered life through being devoted to
prayer.
(Colossians 4:2 – 4) Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.
(1 Thessalonians 5:17) Pray continually.
2. We demonstrate a Christ-centered life through the way we interact
with those outside the church.
(Colossians 4:5 – 6) Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
(2 Corinthians 5:20) We are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf: “Be reconciled to God.”
(Ephesians 4:29) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
(Titus 2:10) In every way . . . make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
(Prov. 18:21) The tongue has the power of life and death.
(James 1:5) If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
3. We demonstrate a Christ-centered life through being an active part of a Christ-centered community.
(Colossians 4:7 – 16)
4. We demonstrate a Christ-centered life through faithfully using our God-given gifts in service to the LORD and His body, the church.
(Colossians 4:17) Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”
(Colossians 4:17 CSB) And tell Archippus, “Pay attention to the ministry you have received in the Lord, so that you can accomplish it.”
(Colossians 4:17 MSG) And, oh, yes, tell Archippus, “Do your best in the job you received from the Master. Do your very best.”
(Romans 12:6) We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.
5. You can demonstrate a Christ-centered life through keeping Christ central in your life.
