(Col. 3:18-25)
1) Wives submit to your husband (3:18)
Submission is about order, it's not about value.
Submission is voluntary, not demanded.
First she must submit to the Lord. (Eph.5:22)
2) Husbands love your wife (3:19)
Paul is teaching us husbands to love our wives sacrificially even if it means the crucifixion of our desires. (Eph.5:25-27)
As men and women in marriage we get to play the Jesus role by imitating his sacrificial authority and sacrificial submission.
What submission is not (1 Peter 3:1-6)
1. Submission is not agreeing on everything.
2. Submission does not mean to not think.
3. Submission does not mean you don't try to influence your husband.
4. Submission is not putting the will of the husband before the will of Christ.
5. Submission does not mean living or acting in fear.
Children obey your Parents (3:20) and (Eph. 6:4)
6. Children need parents who are loving authorities, loving guides and loving disciplinarians.
Bondservants obey in everything (3:22-25)
7. Paul says their motivation should not be to please people (masters) but to fear the Lord.
