Does God Want Me to Be Happy?

Did God Really Say That...He Wants Me To Be Happy?

(Psalm 97:12 NLT96) May all who are godly be happy. . .

(Psalm 1:1-2 CSB) How happy is the one who does not walk in the advice of
the wicked or stand in the pathway with sinners or sit in the company of
mockers! Instead, his delight is in the LORD’s instruction, and he meditates
on it day and night.

(John 16:24) “Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”

What do we mean by happiness?

What is your happiness based on?

Happiness is NOT . . .

1. An absence of struggle.
(John 16:33) “In this world you will have trouble.”

2. Getting what I want.
(James 4:2-3) “You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you
ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may
spend what you get on your pleasures.”

3. Denying the existence of pain.
(1 Peter 4:12-13) “Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you
are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But
rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be
overjoyed when his glory is revealed.”

Does God Want Me to Be Happy?

Happiness IS . . .

1. Confidence in God in the MIDST of struggle.
(John 16:33 TPT) “And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which
is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me.
For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you
must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!”

2. Knowing God will provide for my needs.
(Philippians 4:19) “And my God will meet all your needs according to his
glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

(Matthew 7:11) “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts
to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to
those who ask him!”

3. Knowing I am NOT alone in my pain.
(Psalm 34:18 NASB) “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves
those who are crushed in spirit.

(Hebrews 4:15 MSG) “We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our
reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all – all but
the sin.”

True and lasting happiness is found in God’s Presence.
(Psalm 16:11 NASB) “In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand
there are pleasures forever.”

Psalm 97:12 NLT96) “May all who are godly be happy in the LORD and
praise his holy name!”
