Christmas at the Movies | Part 1
This is a subtitle for your new post
(John 1:1 – 18) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were;
without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life
was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has
not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came
as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.
He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light
that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and
though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came
to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did
receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become
children of God - children not born of natural descent, nor of human decision or a
husband’s will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling
among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came
from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John testified concerning him. He cried out,
saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has
surpassed me because he was before me.’”). Out of his fullness we have all received
grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace
and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and
only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made
him known.
1. God chose to relate to us in a unique way, by becoming a part of
His own creation.
(John 1:1, 14) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. The Word became flesh and
made his dwelling among us.
(Hebrews 4:14 – 15 NASB) Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has
passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but
One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
2. God communicates in unexpected ways.
(John 1:11) He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
(1 Kings 19:11 – 13) The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the
presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful
wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the
LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD
was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not
in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heart it, he pulled
his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a
voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
3. There is hope that cannot be overcome.
(John 1:5) The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
(Matthew 5:16) In the same way, let your light shine before others that they may
see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
