The Trinity: God in Three Persons
What is the Trinity?
(Matthew 28:19) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
The Oneness of God
1. God is One.
(Exodus 20:2 – 3) I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.
(Deuteronomy 6:4) Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. (James 2:19 NASB) You believe that God is one. You do well;

The Deity of Three
2. God the Father is God.
(Genesis 1:1) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
(Matthew 6:26) Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
(Matthew 6:9) Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
(1 Corinthians 8:6) There is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live . . .
3. Jesus the Son is God.
(1 Corinthians 8:6) There is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
(Philippians 2:5 – 6 NASB) . . . Christ Jesus, Who, being in very nature God . . .
(Hebrews 1:2 – 3, 5 NASB) in these last days, (God) has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature . . . For to which of the angels did He ever say, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You?’ And again, ‘I will be a Father to Him and He shall be a Son to Me?’
(John 1:1 – 2) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
4. The Holy Spirit is God.
(Isaiah 63:10) Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit.
(Isaiah 48:16 NASB) And now the Lord GOD has sent me, and His Spirit.
(John 14:26) The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you…
(John 16:7) It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.
The Three-in-Oneness
5. All Three Together are God. The Trinity is One God consisting of Three Distinct Persons, yet they are One.
(Matthew 3:16 – 17) As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from Heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
(Matthew 28:19) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
(2 Corinthians 13:14) May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
